Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system is used for controlling industrial processes. SCADA systems include hardware and software components. The hardware components gather and feed data into field controller systems, which forward the data to other systems that process and present it to a human–machine interface (HMI) in a timely manner. SCADA systems also record and log all events for reporting process status and issues. SCADA applications warn when conditions become hazardous by triggering alarms. SCADA systems perform several functions that allow for the proper management of remote facilities. The four core functions of a SCADA system are data acquisition, networked data communication, data presentation, and control. These systems are used by industrial organizations and companies to control and maintain efficiency, distribute data for smarter decisions, and communicate system issues to help mitigate downtime. SCADA systems are the backbone of many modern industries, including energy, food & beverages, manufacturing, oil & gas, power, recycling, transportation, and water & wastewater.
